Facilitating economic recovery in LEDCs following natural disasters
Tackling economic challenges stemming from a rapidly aging workforce
Greetings honourable delegates, fellow chairs, and esteemed guests,
My name is Van Hien Nguyen and I’m currently a sophomore at the United Nations International School of Hanoi. It’s an honour for me to serve as a chair for GA2 at the BEIMUN XXXIII conference held in Beijing this January. This upcoming conference will mark my 5th conference experience but my first conference as a chair, and I am absolutely delighted and honored to serve as a chair.
This conference’s theme, “Virtue Attracts Resonance”, resonates deeply with our mission of the GA2 and to me personally. Our council addresses urgent global issues surrounding global economic and financial issues with a strong focus on sustainable development and reducing global inequalities. This requires dedicated cooperations between nations, and the commitment, moral integrity and trust within Member States. Hence, this theme encourages all delegates to work collectively with respect and trust to create efficient, constructive resolutions that are acknowledged by all. Personally, I’m deeply resonated with this theme as I always desire to help create a safe environment for all our delegates to raise their voices, to ensure that everyone’s voice and contribution is heard and valued, where integrity, collective efforts and cooperation are highly valued.
In this upcoming conference, GA2 will debate about two critical topics: “Facilitating economic recovery in LEDCs following natural disasters” and “Tackling economic challenges stemming from a rapidly aging workforce.” I’ll be focusing on the first topic, which will emphasize on the urgent needs for planning and framework to prepare and support LEDCs in the economic recovery following the loss from natural disasters. In recent years, natural disasters have been increasing in both frequency and strength, causing huge human and economic losses to the world. LEDCs, which are already developing countries that struggle with their own existing issues, face even worse implications from dealing with these catastrophes.
As you prepare, I highly encourage all delegates to approach these discussions with respect, empathy, open-mindedness and a willingness to collaborate across differences to together create constructive resolutions that can meet all nations’ agreement. Together, working under the value of the BEIMUN XXXIII conference’s theme: Virtue Attracts Resonance, we can create innovative and effective solutions that can help foster trust, integrity and shared responsibilities.
I’m very much looking forward to working with my honorable delegates and fellow chairs to all create a fruitful debate in Beijing this January. Hope to see everyone’s diplomacy in action and an engaging, productive conference day!
Please feel free to contact me or my fellow chairs should you have any questions or concerns regarding our topics or MUN procedures in general.
Kind regards,
Van Hien Nguyen.
