BEIMUN Secretariat Team
33rd Annual Iteration Team
Valeriana Lau

Secretary General
Greetings to all participants attending BEIMUN XXXIII,
My name is Valeriana Lau, and I am honored to be serving as the Secretary General for the thirty-third iteration of Beijing Model United Nations conference. I am a senior attending the International School of Beijing; this marks my 5th year in MUN.
I initially joined MUN due to peer pressure in 8th grade, but have quickly grown to love public speaking and resolving challenges. I saw myself grow significantly from an intimidated, clueless delegate into one who is holds passion and unique perspectives on world issues. Needless to say, MUN has set a foundation for me and my perception of the world, and have evolved to become a hobby I am most passionate about, a harbor from all the societal and academic pressures. I sincerely hope that all may learn to embrace the hardships, to see it as an opportunity for improvement and closure to issues in reality, and to eventually find MUN enjoyable.
May all find benefits and passion in Model United Nations, even if that is socializing with others. I look forward to meeting everyone at BEIMUN XXXIII!
Miranda Poh
Secretary General

Honorable directors, chairs, and delegates:
my name is Miranda, and across the internet, I warmly welcome you to the 33rd iteration of BEIMUN. I am a Junior attending the International School of Beijing, and it is my honor to serve as your secretary general alongside my friend Valeriana, and host you at ISB in January.
Every year, BEIMUN amasses an incredible amount of students, all united in the purpose of MUN. While your reasons of joining the program may vary from passion in debate to current affairs to…fancy suits…to me, the most compelling thing about MUN is the community it builds.
As a participant (and later mentor) in ISB’s MUN team, I’ve always loved how we bond over shared experiences, whether its the canon event of not submitting resolution drafts on time, or traveling to other schools for conferences, or staying up late preparing for debate the next day. What’s even more special to me is how a committee starts with a room of strangers (I am such an introvert), and in the span of a few days, turns into a committee filled with heated debates, lively banter, and newly formed friendships. These quirks of MUN are the reason behind my passion of the activity, and what I hope you will take away from your attendance at our conference.
Experienced delegates — while competition is part of MUN and I look forward to observing your strategic negotiations and persuasive techniques, I also anticipate seeing what you can achieve with others — whether its co-drafting an amendment or networking with peers from all around the globe.
Newer delegates — Most experienced delegates will tell you how they started off doubtful and insecure about MUN, which is how my MUN journey started as well. If anything, to me, this common anecdote is an indicator that the MUN community is a lot more caring than you think. If you believe in yourself and take a leap of faith, you’ll find that behind the suits and frequent reminders to not use personal pronouns, is a quirky, supportive (sometimes argumentative) community that you might just come to love.
To everyone — rather than just being ‘another’ conference or another entry into your activities list, I truly hope that BEIMUN will be a wonderful experience and memory for you. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out, and I look forward to meeting you soon.
Raymond Jiang
Deputy Secretary General

To all attending BEIMUN XXXIII,
My name is Raymond Jiang. I am privileged to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General for the upcoming conference. As a junior attending the International School of Beijing, this marks my fifth year in ISB’s MUN program.
My experience with MUN began in elementary school—fifth grade, first year at ISB, and the spark of a commitment that would shape much of my adolescence. Five years have passed in the blink of an eye, and five more could slip by just as swiftly. Looking back, I could never have imagined that five years on, I would still be crafting resolutions, delivering speeches, and making amendments—almost as if nothing had changed. Much has changed beneath the surface, however. From being soft-spoken and mistake-fearing to someone who embraces their own thoughts and opinions with confidence, I’ve seen massive growth within myself. I hope that with BEIMUN, delegates can embark on the same journey I took to find comfort in fruitful debate and eventually eradicate self-doubt.
In time, we’ll truly grasp how fleeting four years really are. Too often, this realization comes too late, leaving us with regret and yearning. Let us seize every moment of now, cultivate every instance of growth and courage, so that when our time comes to look back at High School MUN, we do so with pride rather than pity.
For many, MUN may only embody a minor chapter from an activity-filled life. Yet, it is a memory that alumni return to time and again when speaking on moments that left an impact from their high school years. So, Delegates, leave everything in your committee rooms: make that speech you’ve been wanting to deliver, answer that POI you’ve been hesitant to take, and strike that clause that’s been screaming to be removed.
See you in January.
Kylie Shi
Director General

Greetings to all BEIMUN XXXIII participants,
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 33rd iteration of BEIMUN. My name is Kylie Shi, and I am honored to serve as your Director General this year. As a senior at the International School of Beijing, this is my fourth year in the MUN program.
I still clearly remember when I first stepped into the MUN meeting room as a freshman. I was absolutely intimidated by how polished and passionate everyone seemed. The formal language, the structured debates, and the sheer speed of discussions made me feel like I didn’t belong. I was quiet, hesitant, and unsure of what I could possibly contribute. But everything changed when I attended my first BEIMUN conference. I discovered that MUN isn’t just about speaking perfectly or knowing every diplomatic term—it’s about learning, growing, and finding the courage to step up, even when you’re nervous. Along the way, I built friendships, gained confidence, and found a community that challenges and supports me in equal measure. Now as I head into my final high school year, MUN has become one of the most meaningful and memorable parts of my high school experience.
Whether you are new to MUN or have attended countless conferences, I hope BEIMUN XXXI offers you the same excitement, growth, and unforgettable memories that have made this journey so special for me. Conferences fly by faster than you think, and the moments you create—both in and out of debate—may become the ones you look back on most fondly. So please take every chance to speak, to listen, to learn, and to enjoy every moment.
See you in January!
Patrick Young
Head Admin

Hello all!
My name is Patrick Young, and I am ecstatic to serve you all as one of the head admins for the 33rd Annual BEIMUN conference! I am a to-be Junior at ISB, and this is my second year taking part in organizing this conference.
Though having no formal experience being a delegate during conferences, I have been involved with various aspects of the MUN program throughout my academic career. My interest in the program was initially sparked by volunteering for BEIMUN XXXI as an admin, then taking the leap and interviewing for Admin Support the following conference, which lands me here today, as a Head Admin.
Despite never participating in the conventional sense, I’ve had the pleasure to admire the beauty of the program, through my participation in the past two BEIMUN conferences. MUN has taught me much about diplomatic procedures, event planning & organization, among others. Today, the program is a vital part of my life, often finding thoughts of BEIMUN lingering on my mind.
With that being said, I wish all who attends a fantastic and fruitful experience at BEIMUN XXXIII
:3,
Patrick
Olivia Noh
Head Admin

Greetings to all future attendees of BEIMUN XXXIII,
Hello, my name is Olivia Noh, and I am honored to serve as your Head Admin for the upcoming 33rd BEIMUN conference. I am a sophomore attending the International School of Beijing, and I am beyond delighted to meet you all.
Joining MUN relatively later than my peers, I always walked shy to the weekly MUN meeting room, feeling overwhelmed by the formal atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be great debaters while I rarely spoke. I gradually lost confidence and wondered what others were seeing in the MUN program. However, attending my first-ever conference, BEIMUN Jr., has changed my mind.
What I discovered there was a completely different side of MUN, and I could see what made MUN so special. It was the energy coming from the energetic and inclusive community driven by the shared passion. That experience helped me form friendships and memories I still cherish today, and every small step I took forward gave me a striking sense of achievement. Over time, that’s what kept me going and encouraged me to keep challenging myself
As we approach BEIMUN XXXIII, I hope each of you—whether you're attending your first BEIMUN conference or returning once again—can experience that same spark.
See you all in January!
Gillian Cao
Head Admin

To the future attendees of BEIMUN XXXIII,
I’m Gillian Cao, and it’s my honor to serve as one of your Head Admins for BEIMUN XXXIII. I am currently a sophomore at the International School of Beijing, and this is my fourth year as a member of ISB’s MUN club.
Over these past four years, MUN has become much more than just an extracurricular for me; it’s become a defining part of my high school journey and a key element of my identity. When I walked into my first MUN meeting, timid and shy, I could never have imagined the memories and growth that awaited me. After participating in 15 conferences, I’ve come to appreciate not only the excitement of debate and diplomacy but also the friendships and community that MUN uniquely offers. MUN has taught me to embrace challenges, step out of my comfort zone, and find my voice in a room full of passionate people. Whether you’re a seasoned delegate or attending your very first conference, I’m sure you’ll find what you’re looking for at BEIMUN.
And when BEIMUN eventually arrives, I encourage you to make the most of every moment: engage in fruitful debate, reach out to someone new, and don’t be afraid to take risks. The journey may be daunting at first, but it’s these very experiences that make MUN, and BEIMUN in particular, so rewarding. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and making some lifelong memories.
See you soon!
